April! - Sarah Kennedy
Oh my, what a month it has been.
I want to share some exciting things that have happened this month, specifically for me to look back on in gratitude.
I turned 28! And I got to celebrate around a table with people from all walks of my life. It was wild how the Lord ordained people around that dinner table with me. My old world race leader from 8 years ago happened to be in Antigua and got to celebrate with me! People who have been in my life since the 2nd time I came to Guatemala were at the table with me. People that I met 2 months ago were at the table with me. I was baffled at how purposeful and divine our God is. Birthdays hold a unique place in my heart because I have spent some birthdays full of joy, and others in deep sorrow. I never know what the day will hold when it comes, but as I woke up on April 16th, and sat down with my coffee in the foreign land I find myself in and my eyes filled with tears over the fact that the Lord is still just getting started.
I have been a part of a church in Antigua called Shoreline City and I went through the join classes to be able to start serving! I get to spend my Sunday mornings greeting and connecting people. If you know anything about me, you know this fuels my soul.
I am moving up in the world with Spanish learning and my precious teacher has changed the way we learn. The Lord spoke through her. We now relate everything to the Bible and spend much of our time discussing topics regarding religion and scripture. I have never had such a desire to learn a language in my life. To understand and comprehend scripture in Spanish and English is an honor of a lifetime. I’m dreaming of the day when I can use both daily to reach more of Gods people.
My days this month have been surrounded by reading scripture, playing card games, loving on stray dogs, laughing with children who are fascinated by me being a gringa (white person), growing and learning and stretching, and in complete surrender.
There’s so much to be hopeful for. Another missionary and I have adopted the phrase “un día à la vez” or one day at a time. I fully understand now the verse “we make our plans, but the Lord prepares our steps.” It’s been the 2 most interesting and stretching months of my life and I have remained humble in recognizing I know absolutely nothing. But our God is big and one thing that’s been made abundantly clear these 2 months is that He has really big plans.
Thank you for joining with me on this. My only hope is to please the Lord in all that I do. May we all yearn to do that daily.
